What’s New in Tiger?

There are over 200 new features in Mac OS X v 10.4. The most notable are

described below.

Dashboard

Tiger features Dashboard, a semi-transparent layer that floats above

your Desktop at the press of the Dashboard icon on the Dock (or

press F12). Dashboard zooms onto your desktop and provides access to

several fun and functional, mini applications called widgets. To close

Dashboard, simply click in an empty space or press the F12 key and you are

instantly right back where you started.

The built-in widgets give you quick access to handy tools such as a calendar,

favorite stocks, a world clock, a unit converter, calculator, and

dictionary/thesaurus. All the controls for a widget are on its back. Simply click the

Info (i) button on the widget to flip it over and access its settings, then click done

to turn it back around (hint: the i shows up as you mouse over a widget).

With so many widgets at your disposal, the widget bar

comes in handy. Just click the Open (+) button to the left of

your dock while in Dashboard and you will see a widget bar

displaying every available widget that is pre-installed on

your system. Drag the widgets you want from the bar to Dashboard. Once you

have your widgets where you want them, close the bar with a single click.
