m a Newton device, with 1 MB or more of system memory, running the Newton 2.1
operating system or later
m adequate storage space—the NIE software requires approximately 800K (Keep
in mind that you’ll need additional space for any Internet applications and their
associated data.) Depending on the type of connection you’re using, you may not
need as much space.
m the latest Newton OS System Update (System updates are required when
using NIE.)
m an account with an Internet service provider (ISP) or equivalent, such as one
established through your work or school, or access to a private company intranet
m one or more Internet applications for the Newton operating system, such as Web
browser software and e-mail software
m an Internet setup stored in the internal memory or on a PC card (You use NIE to
create Internet setups.)

Depending on how you are connecting, you may also need the following:
Ethernet
m Ethernet PC card
m Ethernet network running the TCP/IP protocol
LocalTalk
m a LocalTalk cable connected to an AppleTalk network bridged to a TCP/IP network
and a MacIP server
or
m an Ethernet PC card connected to an EtherTalk network bridged to a TCP/IP
network and a MacIP server
Modem
m an analog phone line or cellular telephone
m an external modem or a PC card modem compatible with your Newton device
m a modem setup file for your particular modem
